The market table lists 9 markets: the United States, Hong Kong, China Connect (Shanghai–Hong Kong Stock Connect/Shenzhen–Hong Kong Stock Connect), Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Germany and France, but not all are open to ordinary retail investors: First Securities’ Overseas Stock Market Trading Information (March 2022 edition) notes that China Connect “is available only to professional investors” and South Korea “is open only to professional institutional investors”; Singapore, the United Kingdom, Germany and France can only be traded in the original currency, while the United States, Hong Kong (HKD-denominated) and Japan can be traded in either the original currency or New Taiwan dollars. Can I open a First Securities sub-brokerage account online? What do I need to prepare?
You can open an additional account online if you are already a First Securities and First Bank online banking customer, are at least 18 years old and under 65, and do not have U.S. citizenship or tax residency in another country. Customers aged 65 or above, authorized accounts (appointed agents), or corporate accounts must handle it in person at a branch. Have ready: an already opened First Securities e-trading account, First Bank online banking, your ID card plus a second ID document (NHI card or driver’s license), and a mobile phone number. For sub-brokerage, the settlement debit account can currently only be designated as a First Bank online banking account (including iLEO digital accounts), and the settlement currency can be TWD or foreign currency. During the process, you must sign W-8BEN (the system will automatically populate the required fields; supplemental information must be filled in English); partially completed information is temporarily saved for 30 days.
How much is the handling fee for First Securities' US stock regular savings plan? What is the minimum amount I can buy?
Minimum of USD 10 or TWD 500 per transaction (thereafter adjusted in increments/decrements of USD 10 / TWD 100). Debits can be scheduled on the 3rd, 8th, 13th, 18th, 23rd, and 28th of each month. The eligible securities are 50 individual stocks plus 24 ETFs, and fractional shares as small as 0.00001 shares can be purchased. The buy commission is 0.1% of the transaction amount, with no minimum fee; selling holdings purchased through the regular savings plan incurs a 0.4% fee, with a minimum of USD 5. Two points to note: regular savings plan holdings are separate from general sub-brokerage holdings and can only be sold at market price within the regular savings plan function; eligibility is limited to individual Taiwan residents who have opened a First Securities sub-brokerage account, and the settlement bank must be First Bank. The above are the rates announced on the official website; the latest promotions are subject to the official website.
